Leagues provide foundations for reliable regular competition and setting up a league is a great way to help players of all abilities to meet other players and improve their game.
Players can be grouped into divisions of similar ability to encourage competition at all levels. A divisional system also creates the added competitive twist of trying to win promotion or avoiding the dreaded relegation - and all the fun banter that comes with it.
If you have a table at work setting up a league can be great for staff morale and in pubs a league keeps the landlord happy. You only need three or four players to set up a league.
