Hey guys!
Just as I sat down to write this month’s blog, I had the Queen’s club tennis on the telly. In between the 2 semi-finals there was an interview with the tournament director, hardly in-depth or particularly interesting but there was one bit that made me smile. The TD was congratulated for 2 Britons reaching the semi-finals. After 2 years of TD’ing I would never have expected to be thanked for an underdog or the local guys doing well. Now though….If Sanjay wins OS at Isha then I expect at least some credit ;)
And it’s the Isha Lounge Open (here - http://bit.ly/kGFpR6) that has most of my attention right now. Really am looking forward to it, feel it’s going to be one of those really fun, social, tournaments. So if you’re still on the fence as to whether come, well, you should. Probably going to be some free stuff for those that come too!
Now on to the committee goings on for the month. I’d like to think the big thing is still the BFA Cup. There has been some good progress in regards to that this month, with the potential beginnings of a partnership with Rileys. This could be huge, with a club structure rolling out over hundreds of venues across the country. If this could happen it will just be brilliant. The clubs really could become a huge part of our game – there is so much we could do with hundreds of registered venues across the country. Just think about that.
However, even more brilliant than that, look at the club that has just registered itself! - http://bit.ly/leDsbr. If it’s a joke I salute the person who thought it up, if not then I am just delighted with the BFA’s sphere of influence. Oh, and for the new players reading this we now have the BFA Trophy - http://bit.ly/mxnmOO - as part of the BFA Cup. Have a look, it’s made for you guys.
Now I can finish up on this with some more high-brow quoting, this time from Antoine De Saint-Exupery; "The notion of looking on at life has always been hateful to me. What am I if I am not a participant? In order to be, I must participate."
Also the new plan for our commercial activities is nearing completion. This should not only improve the commercial aspect of our game in the UK but also provide us with some greater financial security. Might not sound like the most exciting thing, but it will enable us to know in advance the minimum amount of money we’ll have coming in. Thus we’ll have good time to plan the best things we can do that money. Also in this new commercial direction will be some incentives to be a higher ranked player – which I know has been needed.
I’ll leave it there for this month. Until next time, happy foosing.
Joe.
