Hey guys. Did plan on getting this one out last week, but with a few new announcements there is even more to talk about now.
So to kick those off, we have just launched the BFA Cup. Which I really do think is pretty exciting. Those of you that went to the Bath Open, and stuck around Saturday evening, will be aware just how brilliant even just watching the University team event was. The most I have ever cared about a game has been on the 2 occasions where I have played for GB. This wasn’t because of a huge amount of national pride, but because I was fighting to win for the team where we were all united under the identity of the GB team. Both examples share the characteristics that made a great experience for the players.
I really hope the BFA Cup can bring this experience, which few have thus far sampled, out to the masses. So if you’re thinking about getting involved – you should!
In other news the captains for the 2012 ITSF World Cup have been announced. So I would like to offer my congratulations to;
Robert Atha – Men’s team captain
Dave Ziemann – Senior team captain
Mayya Racy – Women’s team captain
Hopefully this advanced announcement can help their team’s preparations and result in all teams having their best world cup results.
I have to confess that I feel I’ve lost the actual point of this blog, or really I’ve never captured it. This was started to make you guys more involved in, and increase the transparency of, what the committee are actually doing. Thus far I’ve only really used it to highlight main issues of our game, but things no doubt the majority of you have already seen and don’t have any great desire to hear my ramblings on the subject (as brilliant as they are)!
We’re now entering the stage where the ideas of this new committee are going beyond the planning and discussion stage (which, as is the case with every committee, is often a pretty extensive progress) and into making them happen. This can be highlight in the 2 subjects I talk about above. Though the captain selection, along with confirming the UKC date, does not involve anywhere near the committee man hours as creating the BFA Cup it does require the foresight we may have lacked in the past.
Plans are also coming together that will improve and structure our finances, which will greatly help us plan what can financially can do each year, and as a result hopefully become more active.
Work is also going into updating our constitution and policy documents to bring them in line with the changes that always occur in our game.
The latest tournament has just been announced too – see http://bit.ly/jUgRSV - the Isha Lounge Open in London. This event will be the 1st tournament where the table supply will be shared with the BFA and another party. In this happening the committee have had to come up with a financial solution.
Now this doesn’t sound like the most exciting thing to talk about, but I just thought I would talk a little about what we are actually doing. Though I’m not going to fully disclose things which are works in progress, I hope this will bring a little more transparency over our involvement with the game.
We’ve also started to use our mailing list to bring the important issues directly to you. For anyone who wants to be part of this too then just visit our homepage and sign up.
Joe.
