How To Play Table Football - The Rules
BFA 'French-Style' Rules
Rules for use on Rene-Pierre, Bonzini and similar tables.
The BFA has run a handful of events on French-style tables using the Cafe Kick rules, reproduced below. More internationally recognised rules are available via the following links:
- Association Française de Baby-Foot rules: French (pdf); or Translated (pdf)
- BonziniUSA rules can be viewed here
Kick Off
- At the start of the game, the ball is rolled evenly between the opponents' midfield players
- After a goal, possession of the ball is given to the midfield players of the team against whom the goal was scored
- The ball must be passed between 2 midfield players before an attempt is made to pass the ball forward
Scoring
- Goals may be scored by either: the forward strikers, the rear defenders, or the goalkeeper - Goals may not be scored by the midfield players
- If the ball enters the goal and bounces out, it counts as a goal and the ball is kicked-off from the midfield as usual
Midfield Goals
- If a goal is scored by the midfield players, no goal is counted; instead, the next legal goal counts as 2 points
- This is indicated by moving a pair of scoring beads half-way along the scoring bar. (A subsequent midfield goal increases these "floating" points to 3, and so on)
Spinning
- Uncontrolled spinning of the rods is prohibited.
Restarting
- When the ball cannot be reached by any player, possession is given to the defenders nearest the point where the ball stopped or left the table
- In cases of doubt, the ball is rolled evenly between the midfield players
