FAS Tournament, Purple Turtle Reading

First of all I'd like to say congratulations to Paddy, who came out of nowhere to take the singles title, beating Rob in the process. Also well done to John W who came through the losers bracket to finish 2nd having lost early in the winners. How did the final go? Please let me know.

It was no surprise about the eventual open double winners but it was nice to see them getting over the hangover since the last time they played together. One game from being World champions - actually the less said about that the better! (Again, how did this final go?)

I'm glad Martyn and Mike F turned up as they really do liven up the tournament's atmosphere. Mike, you are just too funny but you've got a hell of a lot better and Martyn was excellent that day.

The most improved performances seen at the tournament:
* Raphael - one of the country's best FAS players. Would have been more lethal had all the tables been 100% FASs.
* Dave Morgan - has become an excellent player over the last 6 months and his 5-bar matches anyones. Also one of the few Oxford players who does a lot more than just hack. I won't mention any names...(!)

Finally thanks to the organisers and of course to Boris doing the all the dirty work but he's used to it. Later,
