August Tornado Tournament Match Report

Yes indeedy! Boris should be a Doctor ;)

33 entrants in Open Singles made for some serious fun foosing action, with Rob Atha totally dominating the event, but some seriously hard matches provided lots of entertainment!

Players showed up from Manchester, Bristol, Oxford, Felixstowe (1) :) and London.

The Pub was a really nice venue with a great atmosphere. They also laid out some lovely grub for the hungry foosers, which was great! Thanks a lot guys.

My Highlights - Beating Sohaib, Tanny AND Stuart Cree at singles - Woohoo! (Sorry about that awful winning shot, Stuart ;))

Seeing (and hearing) more lady players taking part - more Women's events in tournaments definitely gets my vote!

Watching Rob Atha and Dave Perrot totally outclass Tich Degun and Sanjay Kumar in Open Doubles. This was a display of superior table-footy skills that reminded me very much of watching US Pro-Masters in action. Rob did not even seem to be trying very hard yet he could get the ball from the five-bar to the three-bar with ease and score at will. By contrast, Dave was working very hard at the back keeping out Tich and Sanjay, who were determined to make a fight of it. A great match to watch.

Lowlights - Losing to Sanjay and then Tich at singles - AGAIN!!! :(
Both of them beat me convincingly, showing I have still much to learn about playing consistently! Ah well, maybe next time I will give them a better game! :)

Losing the first match in Open Doubles against the redoubtable team of Tom Lawler and Brian Harms. Tom blocked me in my defensive area brilliantly and the Old Master Blaster Brian drilled me with a few of his trademark 'back-pin, slicey-dicey, swerving nasty' shots from the back. Aaaargh! Sorry Martyn (my luckless partner!)

Waiting - this really is one of the worst bits about tournaments generally. I had a good think about it and I have had an idea! (cue groans all round ;)) I will post it in another message.

Overall, this was a good tourney in a great venue. Give me more! See you all in Northwich!! :)
