Event Format - Double Elimination
Draws most commonly used in ranking events, where one side of the chart comprises teams that have yet to be defeated (i.e. the straight knock-out winners bracket), while on the other side of the chart comprises teams that have already lost one match (i.e. the losers bracket).
Teams get knocked from the winners bracket to the losers bracket when they lose a game. They then play other teams who have lost one game for the right to stay in the tournament and play the next team to get knocked down. Every team thus needs to lose two games in order to go out of the tournament, and teams play until there are just two teams left - the winner of the winners bracket, and the winner of the losers bracket – in the grand final. The team from the losers bracket must win twice to take the title.
e.g. A simple scenario double elimination for four teams, A-D:

| Double Elimination Format |
| Teams in Knockout | Matches in Knockout |
| 8 | 15 |
| 12 | 23 |
| 16 | 31 |
| 24 | 47 |
| 32 | 63 |
| 48 | 95 |
The maximum number of matches in a double-elimination chart is thus: 2*(No of Teams)-1.
