4thMatt Hart & Simon Allan£10

A wonderful evening at the Hat in Bath saw 11 teams battle it out in a DYP tournament to mark the passing of the famous
"fluorescent" Garlando table. It will now be donated to charity and will be replaced by a brand new table.

Congratulations to Joe & Paul for winning an epic final. The third place play-off also was also keenly fought, and in fact all the games were tough, but through all this, the teams thoroughly had a good and enjoyable time, and the game was played in a friendly but competitive spirit.

Thanks especially to Geoff Brice, the distributor of Garlando tables in Bath, for generously donating the £100 prize money to mark this event. Geoff has always been highly thought of by all in the "Hat" and this was another typical gesture from him.

Thanks also to the Hat for their hospitality, and of course they now have a brand new table, so everyone is welcome to try it out.

Tornado Open Singles - Rainbow Snooker Club, Manchester

OPEN DYP
1st Rob Atha £10
2nd Steve 'Eddie' Edwards £6
3rd Khalid Sharif
4th Les Jones

Free entry and a 2-goal start attracted several novices to the competition. Khalid, after losing to Tanny sweat ball in the opening round, looked like going all the way through the losers bracket with some awesome play, but against Ed in the losers final gave back a 6 goal lead, but still looked like coming back before the final whistle.

Tornado Open DYP

Rainbow Snooker Club, Manchester

OPEN DYP
1st Robert Atha & Alan Yu
2nd Eddie Edwards & Sohaib Tanvir
3rd Les Jones & Craig Mellia

After two runners-up finishes in a row, Rob finally got his hands on a trophy (or would have done if we had had one this month) after an unstoppable performance, aided stoically by Alan Yu's solid defending and quick pick-up shots.  Eddie also continued his recent run of good form with Sohaib (son of Tanny), but couldn't match Rob on the 5 or 2-bars this time, and had to settle for 2nd place.

Other highlights included a couple of superb angled 2-bar front-pin shots by Belgian international Frank van den Eeden, worth the entrance fee alone.

Tornado Open Doubles

Rainbow Snooker Club, Manchester

OPEN DOUBLES
1st Eddie Edwards & Benge McHugh
2nd Robert Atha & Dave Perrott
3rd Stuart Cree & Boris Atha

A hard-fought competition saw Eddie's front-pin on fire, beating all comers from the winners bracket.  Both the winners final and overall final went to sweat ball against Rob & Dave. Tanny had a new experience - playing with Alan Wu he was 2 and out for the first time in living memory!

FAS (Garlando Style) DYP

Tudor House Hotel, New Market Street, Wigan WN1 1SE

OPEN DYP
1st John Hodson & Darren Whitfield £50
2nd Rowan Duffy & Dave Gaskell Crate of Rolling Rock
3rd James Atha & Dave Perrott
4th Russell Miller & Alexis Mason

The first of hopefully many FAS DYPs at the Tudor drew an enthusiastic local crowd, with the final between two teams of local heroes heard in hushed tones reminiscent of the Crucible Theatre. Both finalists had overcome hot favourites Perrott & James (Jaf) Atha to book their passage, with John & Darren coming from the losers bracket to complete a worthy win. Another sponsorship success thanks to Rolling Rock for T-shirts and other consolation prizes for less successful competitors.

Cafeteria-Sporthal Borgloon, Sint-Rochuslaan 12, Borgloon 3840, Belgium

Well over 200 competitors with very high standard of front-pin play - the snake shot is illegal and the pull impossible with such a sticky table/toe/ball combination. In particular, watch out for Tom van der Cauter age 15, taking 3rd in Open Singles and 1st in Pro (amateur A) doubles. Play was still continuing all night well into Easter Monday morning, and probably afternoon.
